Wikipedia going dark on Wednesday!

Yes, this is not a joke. In protest of the Internet censorship bill SOPA, Wikipedia community had decided to make the website offline for 24-hours. Anyone who uses the internet knows how popular and how valuable Wikipedia is when you want answers to casual questions or research queries.

If it is going to affect your work, you can take steps so you don't lose access to the massive knowledge-base. Just Google "Offline wiki" and you will find several solutions to download the entire content of the Wikipedia to your personal device. These solutions are available on various platforms from Android to Windows. I think it's a good idea to have an offline Wikipedia anyway for those moments when you are not hooked up to the internet.

Awesome.

I heard Reddit was going to shut down for 12 hours on the 18th, but I didn't think a site as big as Wikipedia would take part.

I'm thrilled that the anti-SOPA and anti-PIPA movement is getting so much attention from such big sources.

Too late for me! But, I like the fact that Wikipedia is protesting.....

I wouldn't be surprised though if this bill gets passed....Corporates are way too hungry these days.

I am also pleased that Wikipedia and other big organizations are protesting.

@Unix Tech, Reddit and Wikipedia are in agreement on this one.

@Chintan, Corporates are hungry and have the money and pressure to make congress give them concession against free speech. But in my view none of this will last. Remember the quote, "An invasion of armies can be stopped but not an idea whose time has come"? But for the timebeing I am worries and I have decided to protest it as well.
